The Keeping Scunthorpe Alive (KSA) campaingers are once again in the pages of this week’s local rag and also on its website. The latest claim it that over 2000 letters of objection have been gathered against the proposed six-unit scheme for Scunthorpe which would bring Marks & Spencer back to Scunthorpe on the land occupied by the Stephen Smith Garden Centre.
It’s reported that there have been so many objections that the campaign group have had to deliver them in two batches. It’s said it just shows the amount of opposition that is growing against this proposed development now that people are realising it’s not just Marks & Spencer building there.
On the groups website their latest article released on 23rd September quite rightly questions why the Old Leisure Centre site not viable which is next to the bus station, plenty of car parking and is easily accessible to all.
I added a comment to this latest article in which I made comment as to Home Bargins opening a store at the Skippingdale Retail Park and asked whether they too would be leaving the town centre. Unfortunately this comment has now been removed by the website administrators like a previous comment I’d posted on another of their articles last month.
I have nailed my colours to the mast before and said I wouldn’t like to see the Marks & Spencer development take place at Frodingham Grange but would welcome M&S back to the town elsewhere. I’m all for a fair and balanced debate or campaign but it seems if you post a comment on their website which so much as welcomes M&S back to Scunthorpe anywhere but the town centre it gets removed.
Judging by the response to various stories about the development on the local rags website there are far more people in favour of M&S returning to any site in the town than the Keeping Scunthorpe Alive group would have us believe.
Thanks to the team for clearing that up.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
