Hustings in Crosby Ward

20 April 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Hustings have been announced in the Crosby Ward of Scunthorpe to allow people in the area to find out more about the candidates who will be standing for election on May 5th. It is hoped that this event will attract all of the local candidates who are standing in Crosby. At the time of going to press, the Labour candidates have accepted the invitation, and a response has still to be received from the Conservatives and the Greens. Do please try to help and let people know about this community event by downloading this Flier and displaying it in a prominent location at home or work. In total there are 6 candidates running for just 3 seats. The current seats are held by Mark Kirk, Jawaid Ishaq and Christine O'Sullivan. Candidates standing for Election in Crosby on May the 5th are: Conservative - Roqueb Uddin Ahmed - Mohammed Elias Javed - Dariusz Piotr Wilkowski Labour Jawaid Ishaq Labour Mark Anton Kirk Labour Christine O'Sullivan The hustings will take place at Centenary Methodist Church on Smith Street at 7:30 pm on Thursday 28th April. If at all possible VisitScunthorpe.Com will cover the event live, giving people at home the opportunity to ask questions, however its looking a bit unlikely as that day I've been provisionally booked for Manchester, so if any one else has an iPhone and fancies a go at running the session - let us know via Editors@VisitScunthorpe.Com, and we'll set it all up for you.

I would love to know who organizes these hustings and why there is not one in all the wards. I for one would love go toe to toe against the other candidates in my ward. Maybe they are just scared they would be asked questions by the public that they either cant or dont want to answer.

Organise one then! It's a bit cowardly to say others are 'scared' and not do anything about it!

Glad, the only thing stopping me suggesting that we organise one is the cost of a venue, its not something you could charge people for, and its not something I could afford to pay for, otherwise I would be suggesting just what you have. If any one has any serious, sensible suggestions about organising a husting's, and if a few people would be prepared to do a bit of leg work towards it I'd be more than happy to promote here and chair it if necessary.

Glad, If I knew how to organise one I would be more than happy to make the required arrangements, but I have no idea how to set these things up. If I thought it was as easy as going to a community hall somewhere in Frodingham and asking the owner to give it up for a few hours one evening I would. As for my use of the word 'Scared', you are right glad. If a husting had been organised the other candidates would turn up, but to use the word cowardly to describe me is a bit uncivilised and grossly unfair As I have said before Im not very knowledgeable when it comes to the politics of getting elected because I have not been doing it for hundreds of years like the main parties, and I may be the first independent to run in this ward for some time. Im on a learning curve. The way I understood it was the parties would organise hustings for themselves and then invite the other candidates so they could run the hustings in areas where they knew they would get support. I would be open to any suggestions for how I could not only get a husting up and running but how I would get the information out to the people of Frodingham that one would be running.
