Regulars may recall that last week Visit Scunthorpe reported that a consensus had been reached between North Lincolnshire, Hull, East Riding and North East Lincolnshire councils to move forward with a bid to create a Humber wide Local Enterprise Partnership.
In a press statement released within the last hour, North Lincolnshire Council has announced that this bid has gone ahead and has been submitted to the government.
If this is succesfull a much needed Enterprize Zone status could then be awarded to the region which would see incentives for much needed business development along the Humber bank. The development of such an Enterprize zone would be a boost for the much talked about Humber Gateway and other south Humber developments which have been discussed in the past. This may also see funds being made available for several road upgrades, the lack of which in the past have been described as a blockage to economic growth and development on the South Humber Bank.
Liz Redfern, leader of the council issued the following statement at 10:45 this morning:
"We were told to move quickly and we have. Already in less than a week, we have submitted what we believe to be a strong bid for a Humber-wide LEP.
Without a doubt, this is what this area needs - we had a major breakthrough last week when the plans received unanimous support from all councils. Now we must do all we can to ensure that we don’t miss out.
The LEP will be hugely beneficial to the area - it will give greater power to the region when it comes to attracting future investment and jobs locally.
It is only a matter of time, but I’m excited and hopeful that the government will give our bid the thumbs up it deserves and enable us to realise the true potential for economic growth in years to come."
Having not yet seen the proposal, but noting the speed with which this has been submitted following last Friday's meeting, its highly probably that the new plans rely heavily the original submission rejected last year, but now fully supported by all councils, including East Yorkshire.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Perhaps Thoades or one of the other contributors could ask Councillor Redfern why she has suddenly changed her mind regarding LEPs? Two months ago she was pushing us to Lincolnshire, now she's delighted with a Humber LEP. What changed? Could it be that with Hull and NELincs signing from the same hymn sheet Liz and the Tories would have been isolated and so, to save face, she had to change her mind too?
