APPLICATIONS for a share of North Lincolnshire Homes' latest raft of Community Development Grants have now closed – with dozens of worthwhile local projects being shortlisted to gain a share of the £40,000 pot.
These groups will attend a 'Dragons Den' style event on the 24September 2011 where they will each have the chance to pitch their projects to each other, before voting amongst themselves how they think the grant should be spent. Some groups will go home unsuccessful in their bid.
The region's largest social landlord has already dished out more than £26,000 so far this year for projects which offer lasting benefits for communities.
Chris Baker, Community Investment Coordinator at North Lincolnshire Homes, said: "Following the success of the previous event the process remains the same, however this time groups can bid for up to £5,000, rather than the £3,000 last time around.
"In this second round of funding we received 37 applications, totalling a request of more than £127,000 in funding. These have been shortlisted against strict criteria to give a final 28 who will attend the event in September in a bid to gain a share of the £40,000 pot.
One of the successfully shortlisted groups is the Westcliff Celts under-12s football team.
Paula McAlinden, who submitted the application, spoke of her delight: "We are very excited about being shortlisted and it would be fantastic if we could secure funding for our new project.
"We are aiming to unite the Riddings and Westcliff communities through football; bringing the youngsters together and teaching them that they can play as a team regardless of where they live."
Another successfully shortlisted group is Carlton Education & Enterprise - who secured £3,000 at the event earlier this year.
Jan Gilbert commented on the positive impact the funding had on the organisation: "The grant made a huge difference to us; helping to sustain the services our organisation offers during tough economic times.
"It is vital that we continue to offer people the opportunity to learn new skills in the area and funding such as this has helped in making a great difference to schemes like ours."
The 'Your Call' participatory budgeting event will take place on Saturday 24 September 2011 at the House Conference, New Life Church in Scunthorpe.
