The Scunthorpe Baptise Church on Ashby Road are inviting people along to an open afternoon on Wednesday 27th July to celebrate the first year of the opening of the Scunthorpe Foodbank.
The Foodbank, which is in partnership with the Scunthorpe Baptist Church and the Trussell Trust, has helped over one thousand adults and children in North Lincolnshire since it was first launched in July last year.
Tinned and dried food is collected from numerous sources, including supermarket collections and organisations within the community, it’s also donated by a number of local schools, churches and businesses, as well as people who have arrived at the door of the church building with a box of food that they wanted to donate personally. The food is then stored and packed in a warehouse, ready for distribution to people in desperate need. The service provides a food parcel which contains three days worth of emergency food, enough for 10 meals, free of charge to clients referred to the FoodBank by local care agencies. It’s not just food that’s needed, toiletries and nappies, etc, are also asked for.
At the open day, which runs from 2pm-4pm, partner agencies and the volunteers who make Foodbank happen have been invited along to the event. Members of the public are invited find out more about how Foodbank is impacting the community and speak to the partner agencies to find out what they do.
Refreshments and a light buffet will be available throughout the event, which is free of charge.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
