Eyesore to gain new lease of life

10 October 2010 by Hamst

One of Scunthorpe's best know, and most talked about Restaurants on Froddingham Road is the be rebuilt following a fire 8 years ago. The owner of the restaurant is Cllr Jawaid Ishaq (MBE) who has represented the area for many years, serving as Major from May 2008 to April 2009. Kashmir Gardens was branded as one of Scunthorpe's Eyesores by readers of Visit Scunthorpe a few months ago, and was then later subject to a, Enforcement Action in November of last year. Kashmir Gardens, 10th October 2010. on Twitpic Photo credit: Hamst Cllr Ishaq has had an ongoing battle with his insurers following a suspected arson attack in 2003, subsequently the property has stood empty ever since. Vowing to restore the restaurant to its former glory Cllr Ishaq has settled out of court with the insurance company and the rebuild is now planned. Cllr Ishaq said "I am delighted to have finally settled this issue once and for all. Now it has been resolved out of court I want to ensure Kashmir Gardens is re-built and re-opened as quickly as possible." We are led to believe that a local building firm from the North Lincolnshire area has been contracted to carry our the work, and that scaffolding is due to be set up on site this week. In a statement released this morning, Cllr Ishaq told Visit Scunthorpe "I would like to thank all local residents for their patience throughout this process. I never once believed it would take so long to resolve. I am now glad to have settled the issue once and for all and look forward to Kashmir Gardens once again serving some of the best food in North Lincolnshire." It's good to see this eyesore finally being restored and put back to work, those that can remember Kashmir Gardens will doubtless have fond memories, and judging by the amount of questions and comments we received on this site regarding the property we are sure that local residents will be pleased to see the work commencing.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
