Education Develpment Centre relocation considered

10 August 2012 by Scunny Independent News

According to Bottesford councilor Steve Swift, the conservative led council are considering moving the Education Development Center from its current central location on the former South Leys school campus, and relocating it in brigg.

The former Riddings school is currently only partially used after the school was relocated and merged with Thomas Sumpter at its new location Melior College close by Trent View.

This we have been led to believe will lead to the leveling of the whole South Leys campus (below).

It comes as no shock to many Scunthorpe residents that with the council's fondness for out of town development, and their negligent approach to those of us living in Scunthorpe, the Education Development Centre will be relocated to what Cllr Swift refers to as "Beloved Brigg". This has got to be an utterly ridiculous proposal as it does not take a genius to work out that locating such a facility as this in the middle of the regions largest residential area makes it more accessible to more people. Removing such a facility to Brigg will make it less accessible and will also increase massively the costs of those wishing to use it.

Having leveled the site, one has to ask the question... What of the Riddings leisure centre adjacent to the South Leys education campus? Will this be destroyed next? Also what of Kymberly School of Performance Arts which also occupy the site?

The current leadership's consistent attacks on Scunthorpe, their laissez-faire attitude towards the town's businesses and their utter rejection of the needs and desires of its residents can only lead on to conclude that all the leader of the council and her henchman Cllr Waltham are looking to achieve is the reformation of the borough of Glanford, plunging Scunthorpe back in to the 1980's.

This must not happen, it has taken over 20 years for Scunthorpe to begin to recover from the loss of its steel industry, and in just a few years all the good work could be easily thrown away.

It is time for Scunthorpe Pride.

Information for the above post was taken from Cllr Steve Swift's Bottesford Blog, as a local councillor he will often use it to update residents on a wide range of issues which are usually un-reported in the local paper.

I do think that Scunthorpe is on the back foot in a number of areas, and people now need to think hard as to what they really want from their local town. Not just talk about it but get up and do something about it, more on this in a few days.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
