Council Officer Brands Disabled Families CHAVS

29 December 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Following some inaccuracies posted on the Evening Telegraph web site about the origin of this story suggesting there is some form of collusion between my self and local politicans, please see my "About" page on my personal blog. http://lincolnshirered.wordpress.com/about/

Many readers will be aware of the situation surrounding the newly refurbished pub in the town centre called “The Foundry Arms”. Having undergone an extensive refurbishment earlier this year, it was opened for just a few weeks due to the multi story car park located above it being deemed as unsafe.

The pub was closed as a safety precaution. The pub also featured a “padarama” which was a specially designed children's play area staffed by child carers and also a sensory room, specially designed for children with special needs, to allow them to develop their senses and skills.

An update to the situation was posted yesterday evening by one of our regular posters The Hamst, and was broadcast to our followers via twitter. http://bounceit.info/?i=1lb

DemolishTheDump

Within a very short period of time, incredibly derogatory comments were left by a senior officer at the council branding the users of any such facility as “tattooed Chavs” and commenting that the best thing for the pub would be demolish it.

This comment could well reveal the true nature of our current council's attitude towards working class families, and suggests a lack of either understanding or compassion for the families with disabled children who would make use of this kind of facility.

One could take this to be the ramblings of one rogue officer if it were not for the fact that the twitter account involved belongs to none other than the council's very on Digital Inclusion Unit Manager, who's £30,000+ a year job it is (among other things) to organise training in social media for local businesses!

Even more remiss is the fact that the account it was sent from carries none of the usual “disclaimer” along the lines of “tweets are in a personal capacity”. This lack of disclaimer not only questions the competency of the said tweeter in the basic premises of Net-etiquette, but may also give the reader the impression that his views and comments are indeed sanctioned by the council, something I would very much doubt.

xfactorbenefits

Indeed, looking through Bullevent's tweets he would profess to be some kind of expert on Social media considering the number of conferences he attends and commentary he gives on the council's own communications policy.

But it's not just drinker's in Scunthorpe Bullevent seems to harbour some sort of class prejudice for, as it would appear that he also believes that people who watch x-factor should have their benefits stopped. Presumably this is so that the money saved can be spent on his tax-payer funded pension which is also coming under threat from government cuts? There is no surprise that with attitudes and opinions such as this expressed by officers that the public (wrongly in my mind) has little patience for the public sector campaign to keep their pension rights. Surely we should all be in this together, and not besmirching and belittling those less fortunate than our selves?

This does however demonstrate yet again, another example of the class divide in modern Britain which we seen on a daily basis. Here we see a public sector employee deliberately attacking large groups of people who are socially disadvantaged while doubtless claiming in his defence that those who need these services or indeed would frequent such an establishment are indeed feckless. One really would have thought and hoped that all council officers were made aware of the McCollum case and that this was included in their “social media training” as this article in the Daily Mail clearly show http://bounceit.info/?i=1lf

Not only are his comments derogatory towards a very large number of people in North Lincolnshire, they are poorly thought out and a sad indicator as to what is considered to be acceptable levels of behaviour in today's society.

I'll be talking about the wider impact of this kind of behaviour, and looking at reasons why “Chav Bashing” has become acceptable on my new blog LincolnshireRed.WordPress.Com -http://bounceit.info/?i=1lg

Update from the council :

Update 18th Feb 2012

It would appear that after an internal review, the council have decided that instead of disciplining the office they would instead endorse a plan put forward by him to spend more tax payer's money on rolling out rural broadband services to villages.

I find it utterly unbelievable that the council should support an officer who makes such discriminatory remarks about members of the public AND give provide him with a promotion.

Unfortunately he is a council officer and so cannot be replaced at the next elections, unlike our bitching counsellors (if they spent more time trying to govern and less time scoring points....)  He is one of these types that sit in their Ivory towers dictating to us plebs what we can and cannot do, the ones that will chuck a sicky in a the drop of a hat, whilst waiting to draw their superannuated pension.
