Care Home Closure Protest

31 March 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Last night protesters gathered at Pitwood House from 5pm to lobby councillors at what was the last public council meeting before the local elections. In total there were around 20 protesters, consisting mainly of users of the care home services based at Scotter House and The Lilacs Share photos on twitter with Twitpic Scotter house specialises in providing respite care to people with learning difficulties. The Lilac's provides rehabilitation and enablement services for older people who are coming out of hospital and transitioning back to their own homes. Both centres are under threat of closure due to a 19 Million short fall in local government funding. Protesters also brought with them a petition for councillors and members of the public to sign. Members from the Save the Care Homes group will also be canvassing in the town centre next Wednesday to ask members of the public to support their struggle to keep both centres open. Any one who would like to help with the petition would be welcome to come along. There are also two petitions available to sign on line: Petition to Save Scotter House Petition to Save The Lilacs The service users campaigning at the council meeting were also joined by members of the care industry and representatives from North Lincolnshire Coaltion of Resistance.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
