To many locals, Henrys Nightclub on Doncaster Road is still the "Spiritual Home of Live Comedy in Scunthorpe”, having previously hosted some of the UK’s most famous comedy characters back in the days when it was known as Henry Africa’s. So in keeping with their progressive program of events, the directors of Henrys invited local comedy promoter TFi StandUps to organise regular evenings of Live Stand Up at their venue.
“The hardest thing in promoting live events is finding trustworthy and reliable local venues and I was all for retiring from comedy promoting, moving to the Outer Hebrides and taking up knitting fog – it might have been an easier hobby” said TFi StandUps owner Steve Walker, “So when you get a phone call from a venue managed by sensible and trustworthy locals, with a collective long term history of proven reliability and excellence in the entertainment industry then it wasn’t too hard a decision to put down the fogging needles”
Therefore, starting
in October Henrys will be hosting
some of the most outstanding performers on the UK Comedy scene including UK
Circuit Legend IAN COGNITO, the Rock
Star looks and guitar slinging style of DUNCAN
OAKLEY and the sublime genius of JOHN
MOLONEY.
Great nights of Live Comedy - but with a twist, once the comedy show is over
then HENRYS flips back to a nightclub and it’s “DISCO” through to the wee small
hours.
LAUNCH NIGHT is on Thursday October
6th, doors open at 7.30pm and Showtime 8.30pm prompt. Cabaret Style
Seating throughout, (pre-booked) Private Booth Seating and with 3 bars plus FIVE
Quality Comedians and starring the "Seriously Cool" Headliner DUNCAN OAKLEY .
Talking about boozing and girl chasing is de-rigeur for the modern stand-up comedian and Duncan Oakley talks a lot about sex and uses the most colourful language with abandon, but he has an ear for the joke, and they come thick and fast. His gag rate and the punch lines come at a heckler-proof rate and he has the confidence and the gift of the gab that will help him spar with the liveliest audience. He’s a rock musician, an accomplished guitarist, drummer and harmonica player, but his biggest talent is his relentless bonhomie. ... The Ladies are going to love him and the men will probably want to be him.
The 3 support acts and MC come in the form of Tony (the hair) Jameson, Freddy Farrell, Marc Smethurst and guest MC will be Frankie (not so much hair) Peoples.
Advance Tickets are £8.00 and are now available from Henrys Nightclub on Doncaster Road, Scunthorpe or from their office. (Open daily down the side of the venue) Tel: 01724 – 848473. (Tickets will be £10.00 on the door).
For more details go to Facebook/Google and search HENRYS SCUNNY. And for future reference all subsequent comedy events will be held on Fridays – it’s what the weekends were made for.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
