Bottesford Town v Scunthorpe United

10 July 2010 by Hamst

Scunthorpe United played there first pre-season friendly against Bottesford Town at Birch Park today (Sat 10th July 2010) winning the match 4-0. Scunthorpe started off edgy for the first 25 minutes but after a short refreshment break they began turn on the pressure and scored. The teams reached half time with United leading 1-0. The second half saw Murphy replaced in goal by Irish trialist Redmond along with a whole host of other team changes which included Eddie Nolan who is on a six-month loan deal from Preston North End with a view to a permanent move. Also playing was Bobby Grant who Scunthorpe signed from Accrington Stanley. The Iron looked the more comfortable during the second half missing several chances, this half saw two stoppages for refreshment breaks. In the end the Championship team proved too much for Bottesford Town who play in the Northern Counties East Division One. Scunthorpe started to pile on the pressure netting two more before an excellent fourth goal by Forte, who had come on for the second half of the match, stamped home the victory close to the end. All together a good run out for both teams It was intresting to see leading scorer from last season Gary Hooper sit out the whole match. Maybe a sign that Adkins is preparing for life without him, there has been spectulation about where his future will be with clubs like Glasgow Celtic, Middlesborough, Leeds Utd and Blackpool reportedly showing and interest in him.
