At last - Improvements to Doncaster Road

31 January 2010 by Paul Rhoades

The junction on Doncaster road with Avenue Vivian is to be replaced finally with a set of traffic lights! Isn't it amazing to see the local council finally spending some money on sensible road improvements instead of that shambles of a cycle crossing they've just spent countless thousands restricting and slowing down road users due to just one or two councilors love of the push iron. The reported 150,000 improvement scheme will take 1 month to complete and will begin in mid February. Now the local council has started making real improvements, how about: Traffic lights or a roundabout on the Chancel Road Messingham Road junction, another area of town where bottlenecks and frustrated drivers lead to collisions and near misses all the time. Roundabout or lights at the bottom of West Common Lane and Scotter Road to reduce peak congestion of traffic leaving or going to the college. Perhaps the thing Scunthorpe needs most - a new motor way junction to ease congestion and take all the traffic from football Tescos out of town, on the M181 and back in at Messingham Road or Scotter Road flyovers? Ideally in our new green economy, the council should be looking at encouraging us to leave the car at home by introducing cheep or better still free, clean, regular and reliable public transport. Currently its quicker for me to walk in to town from where I live, than it is to wait on average 20 mins for a bus to take me half way round Scunthorpe in to town.

a new m`way exit is essential for scunthorpe as the traffic situation will not improve without it..gunness straight years ago should have been made into a wide dual lane road and the orbital should have also been dual lane

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
