Appeal - were you in the Model Boat Club?

Following a campaign launched by Visit Scunthorpe to form a pressure group for the reinstatement of the Concrete Pond in Ashby, evidence has come to light that the construction of the pond was carried out by the council on behalf of the Scunthorpe Model Boat Club.

This morning we received information from a member of the public describing how the pond was dug by the council and a pipe laid from the Queensway to feed the pond with rain water run off.

The member of the public has suggested that this pipe has been severed and that has stopped the run off water from entering the pond.

Our source has gone on to explain that the pond its self is sandy bottomed, and that the pipe was laid by the council specifically to feed this pond.

Any one who has any further information, or was involved in the project please, contact AshbyPondFriends@Gmail.Com urgently

Pedantic semantics I know but the title should be "were you in the model boat club?"

Your praiseworthy efforts at running an excellent local news site are undermined by text speak spelling and bad grammar. This is the first one I've noticed in a posting header but there have been others in postings text. What a bad impression it gives to the first time reader.

Credit where its due though - I'm impressed with the setting up of the Friends of Ashby Pond group and I hope VS is the catalyst for more community action

Regardless, I've just met the former chairman of the Scunthorpe Model Boat Club who was responsible for the building of the pond and the laying of the feed pipe and given an interview to LincsFM about what's been going on.

Many thanks to LincsFM for their interest, and the support from the local community on this very important issue.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
