232,000 investment in town centre

25 February 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Following anouncements by the council in this weeks budget, visit scunthorpe have discovered that there is a lot of interest in the proposed demolition of the leisure centre and what the area will be used for. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the 232,000 earmarked in this week's budget for the redevelopment of the leisure centre is already generating a lot of interest from some leading retailers with long established links to scunthorpe. From the rumoured level of commercial interest in this matter we hope that the town will benefit from this investment and that we see existing, old and new retailers taking advantage of these developments. Let's just hope that all of our local media sources and social commentators view this opportunity for the town positively and don't put investors off with their usual negativity and sensationalism. We are looking into which retailers have expressed an interest in this development and would like to hear from readers if they have any information as to what companies may have ear marked the town centre for future development.

It's not an investment it's money out of the window to demolish a building only 1/4 of a century old. What is going to happen to an already embattled market? It's old news about ASDA various councillors have had loose lips on this one for ages

There was a study in the summer looking at the market provision, there was some discussion of it taking over the building now used by BHS, Any future development of the market was put on hold following a report to council: http://www.visitscunthorpe.com/Scunthorpe-News.asp?Article=88

Fans, if it's been so well know why, just two weeks ago, were you telling everyone in Iron Bru that Scunthorpe were building a new ground there and it was all a done deal?!

anyone who goes on Iron bru knows my advice is to not believe a word you read on it.Please don't bring petty squabbles from there on here ,it's Paul's site not mine . It has been fairly well known about Asda before I chose to wind the bru club up,it was this knowledge that gave me the idea for the jape. Here is the link proving I never said any deal was done
