Plans for Maple Leaf Site
Written by Hamst
Plans have been revealed for the development of the site of the former Maple Leaf public which closed down in 2009. The pub opened in c1970 on land which was previously occupied by Canada Farm which was in the main a poultry farm. The name Canada Farm derives from the Prairie-style wooden arcaded frontage of the old farm house thought to have been built by a farmer after returning from Canada, it was itself demolished in January 1968.
The Maple Leaf was built to form the centre piece of the Canada Farm Estate with the roads which were being constructed also been named along with the Canada theme, these included Quebec Road, Ottawa Road, Ontario Road, Vancouver Crescent and Alberta Road. Many ex-patrons will remember that The Maple Leaf was one of the first pubs in the area to boast a video duke box back in the mid 1980s as well as fond memories of landlords and ladies over the years. The pub closed in late 2007 before reopening again in 2008; it again closed for a number of months before once again reopening for what proved to be a final run. It was finally demolished in late 2009 and has stood derelict since.
Outline planning permission with all matters reserved for a residential development was granted on 1st July 2009 with approval of reserved matters pursuant to outline planning permission for the erection of 9 dwellings being submitted 14th May 2010 and been granted on 7th July 2010. These include the erection of a terrace of 3 houses and two sets of semi detached fronting Quebec Road and one set of semi detached fronting Ottawa Road.
To the right is an artists impression of the finished development. Full details of the application can be found on North Lincolnshire Councils website via the Online Application Register, the Application Reference: PA/2010/0540.
